Confidence Boost
Beyoncé said, “You have to stop acting like you’re afraid of your own power and start to move as your highest self, completely and unapologetically.” Can music help us to achieve that feeling?
My “Confidence Boost” Spotify playlist says, “Yes!”
Music can shape moods, unlock old memories, or even form new memories. For our purposes, the goal is to shape moods. Whether on your daily commute, at the gym or simply lounging around your home, this playlist can boost your spirits and make you feel like the main character of a movie.
This curated playlist has twelve songs from various genres with the sole theme of providing a confidence boost. To start the feelings off right, the current song popularized by TikTok “Confidence” by Ocean Alley is fitting for the theme. Before easing into the heavy rap, “Walking on a Dream” by Empire of the Sun closes out with some alt-electronic beats. Following up the alternative vibes are Nicki Minaj, Drake, Travis Scott, and Jack Harlow, all the recent hip-hop vibes you need. After some rap has the listener pumped up, we switch to some powerful female artists (Flo Milli, SZA, Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift) with songs meant to back up those main character feelings. The finale of Beyoncé’s “Sorry” appeals to the idea of responding to situations unapologetically and with confidence, wrapping up the playlist perfectly.
I curated this playlist to discuss in a blog post but I find myself listening to it daily. During day-to-day life, I tend to get bogged down in the small things and forget who I am. I am sure that I am not the only one who gets those feelings. This playlist genuinely reminds me of my power and I created it in hopes of providing that feeling for others.
Confidence is great and all, but you may be thinking, why Spotify? The great Apple Music versus Spotify debate will always plague conversations with peers about which platform is better. In my opinion, Spotify has the leg up for playlist purposes due to the smart recommendations of songs to add to your playlists that Spotify’s interface suggests based on your music taste and the overall vibe of the playlist you are curating. Beyond the interface itself, Spotify is for every device, not just Apple devices. Spotify’s free service is limited to shuffling and ads, but without an Apple device and a monthly payment, users cannot access Apple Music. We talk about accessibility within museums and other public spaces, but what about our own devices and how we communicate daily?
I will leave you with that food for thought and I hope you enjoy this playlist.
